Amplifying Potential. Inspiring Legacy.
Girls Play Trumpets Too is a New Orleans-based youth music organization advancing artistic excellence, leadership, representation, and cultural exchange through the power of brass music.
Inspiring the world.
More than a music program. A movement.
Girls Play Trumpets Too is a New Orleans-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls ages 8–19 through trumpet instruction, performance excellence, mentorship, and leadership development.
Created to increase equal representation within a traditionally male-dominated area of the music industry, GPTT provides young musicians with opportunities to grow from novice learners into confident performers, leaders, and cultural ambassadors.
What began as an ensemble of eight young musicians has developed into a growing movement serving nearly 200 participants across diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
GPTT is not a marching band. It is a performance-based youth ensemble, leadership platform, cultural organization, and artistic development community rooted in the musical legacy of New Orleans.
Music that is shared, experienced, and remembered.
Each GPTT performance becomes more than a concert. It becomes a moment of connection where discipline meets joy, students step into tradition, and the next generation helps shape something new.
Troy Sawyer
Troy Sawyer founded Girls Play Trumpets Too to expand access to trumpet education for girls and reshape representation within brass music through structured training, mentorship, and high-level performance opportunities.
Under his artistic direction, GPTT has developed into a performance-based youth ensemble centered on discipline, cultural pride, artistic excellence, and personal leadership.
“We are not simply teaching trumpet. We are building leaders, preserving culture, and creating a legacy of excellence.”
